High School Diploma vs High School Equivalency (GED/HiSET)

High School Diploma:

To receive an Adult School Diploma, a student must complete the following requirements:

  • Minimum attendance of at least 12 hours and earn at least 1 credit with AV Adult Education
  • Complete 180 credits in the following subject areas

How does the program work?

  • Students will attend your scheduled lab days every week
  • Classwork will be preformed and completed online in the system, Edgenuity
  • You will work independently at home, and in the classroom with an instructor at your pace
  • Students will be assigned 1 or 2 courses to start
  • Transcript/credit information will take approximately 2-3 weeks to processed. Credit information can also be printed any time by the teacher and/or teacher's aid
  • Aside from daily work, there will be quizzes and exams must be taken in the lab students can use handwritten Cornell Notes while taking quizzes and exams
  • Once all assignments, and the unit exam for each module is passed, students will turn in their assignment sheet in order to receive credit for that particular subject

High School Equivalency (HSE)

  • Earn your High School General Equivalency credential by completing your choice of either the HiSET or GED program
  • Each student will be given access to the Edgenuity program to work on the High School Equivalency path of his or her choice
  • The Edgenuity program will provide specfied training based on each individual student's needs so that each student will get his or credential sooner
  • Each students will work through a series of lessons and practice drills until each subject is mastered, and the student feel ready to take the official HiSET or GED Exam
  • Students will be enrolled into a classroom with a instructor, but may also work from home in addition to class time

Vouchers

  • Antelope Valley School will pay for your test if you score in the "Prepared" or "Well Prepared" range
  • You can only receive one voucher per subtest: make sure you feel you are ready
  • You need attend class at least four times a month
  • You have 60 days from date of issue to use your voucher, if you do not use it, you will need to retest in class to show readiness to receive a new voucher
  • If you schedule a test with your voucher and you did not show up, the voucher is lost and you must pay for your next exam 

Scheduling your Exam

  • To schedule each subject test of your official HSE Exam, Please follow the instructions below:
  1. Go to HiSET.ETS.org or GED.com
  2. For HiSET Accounts, create an account and write down the ETS ID# (for accounts that have been created for the first time, your ETS ID# will be next to your username)
  3. For GED Accounts, make sure to fill out the questionnaire
  4. Contact Brian Merrick either by phone @ (661) 942-9042 x160, or in person
  5. Let Brian know which subject you are approved to take.
