Medical Billing & Coding

Students will learn how to translate doctor's diagnoses and procedures into accurate medical codes in order for insurance companies to reimburse providers for services rendered, as well as turning traditional physician charts into electronic medical records.

Students can sit for Certification exam with AAPC or AHIMA and they will have an A for Apprentice listed in the CPC credential (CPC-A) until they have the 2-year experience.

What is it?

Medical Coding involves entering a patient's vital signs and medical status while in a physician's office or hospital into a medical database, keeping track of their information, symptoms, and prescriptions. Medical Billing involves the financial aspects of a patient's medical care, detailing what services were performed, and interfacing with insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid, and eventually invoicing the patient.

WHAT WILL I DO?

A medical and billing specialist helps the hospital or medical facility manage insurance claims, invoices, and payments. They properly code services and treatments, prepare and send invoices or insurance claims, work with insurance companies, and track patient payments
