Medical Billing & Coding
Students can sit for Certification exam with AAPC or AHIMA and they will have an A for Apprentice listed in the CPC credential (CPC-A) until they have the 2-year experience.
Billing and Coding (prerequisite required)
Hands-on practice in insurance coverage, claims, collections. Training in charges, payments, adjustments and deposit. Extensive ICD-10 and CPT-Coding for overall billing practices. Students will translate doctor’s diagnoses and procedures into accurate medical codes in order for insurance companies to reimburse providers for services rendered, as well as turning traditional physician charts into electronic medical records.
WHAT WILL I DO?
A medical and billing specialist helps the hospital or medical facility manage insurance claims, invoices, and payments. They properly code services and treatments, prepare and send invoices or insurance claims, work with insurance companies, and track patient payments

An electronic medical record is the computerized version of the traditional chart. Electronic versions allow medical professionals to zoom in on the precise information they need to provide the best possible care to their patients. This course will introduce students to the medical record formats, numbering and filing systems, storage and retrieval systems as well as legal requirements for maintaining medical records.

Introduction to medical terminology using words, prefixes, suffixes, combining forms, abbreviations and pronunciation. Anatomy includes body systems and structures. Recommended for all medical classes
