Antelope Valley School District

Citizenship Course

Antelope Valley Adult Education offers free citizenship classes to individuals who are looking at filing for citizenship status, as well as, for those who have already filed for citizenship.

Becoming a citizen in your new country is a great step. As a citizen, you can vote in national elections and contribute to your community. People who are naturalized, or become citizens, also have a chance for better job opportunities.

Citizenship classes assist with the understanding of the United States Citizenship process. Naturalization is the process that makes you a citizen of the United States of America. The naturalization test, or citizenship test, is an interview to test your knowledge. Classes focus on the History and Civics question portion of the interview. USCIS updates the civic test after a major election. If you apply for naturalization after a Federal election, the English portion of the test will not change. The civics questions are updated to reflect current information such as the name of your current representative in Congress.

The N-400 form is looked at and filled out for practice purposes only during the semester course. During your citizenship interview, the USCIS officer will ask you lots of questions about the information you wrote on your N-400 form.
